Alison Lester

This morning 3/4A and 3/4C were lucky to have a visit from the well known author, Alison Lester. Many of the children recognised her stories such as ‘Noni the Pony’, ‘Are we there yet?’ and ‘Imagine’. Alison talked to¬†us about the process of writing and illustrating a book and shared her draft for her new book which will be sent to the publishers later this year. Alison shared photos from her trip to Antarctica and how she uses her experiences to create entertaining stories.

Reading to us about Clancy the courageous cow

Alison Lester reading a story her son, Lachie Hume, wrote. She showed us her son’s first draft and the finished product.

Alison showed us her new story at the drafting stage. She also discussed different techniques she likes to use when illustrating her stories.

Alison took a trip to Antarctica and showed us a PowerPoint of her experience. She kept us all captivated as she told us her tales and showed us how she used her collection of photos for illustrations later.

We all enjoyed listening to Alison Lester. Her visit has inspired some of our students to think about editing their narrative stories and work on their illustrations in hope to get them published in the future.

Paper Plane Fun

We enjoyed a terrific day out at the cinema today to watch Australian movie Paper Planes. Both students and adults thoroughly enjoyed the movie, which had some wonderful messages.¬† It was also inspiring – we couldn’t wait to get back and try out some designs for our own paper plane competition!

Then it was time for the competition! The grades assembled at the basketball courts and each grade flew their planes. The person whose plane flew the furthest made it into the finals.

Paper Planes Excursion

The students are very excited about our excursion to see Paper Planes tomorrow.

Please remember that students need to bring lunch, snack and fruit to school as normal. They will need a separate small bag to bring on the excursion, in which they can put their snack and fruit.  Students will eat lunch upon their return to school.

Thanks, and we look forward to a fabulous day!
